As someone who believes deeply in freedom of speech and freedom of the press, I’ve experienced firsthand how speaking out in Canada can come with serious consequences. Raising difficult questions or exposing uncomfortable truths isn’t always welcomed—and in some cases, it can lead to legal action.
In my own case, I’ve faced prosecution and incarceration, while individuals who have made serious threats—including threats of violence—have, in my view, been shielded by the justice system. I believe the Crown and Toronto Police misrepresented facts about me in court, supporting a double standard that punishes dissent rather than protecting open dialogue.
